Where these numbers come from
About one chew per 30 lb
Most joint chews scale the dose by body weight in steps of roughly one chew per 25 to 35 lb. We follow the same convention, so a 20 lb terrier and a 95 lb shepherd eat the same chew at different counts, and the chew itself stays small enough for small dogs.
Glucosamine per pound
A rule of thumb repeated on many pet sites is about 20 mg of glucosamine per pound of body weight per day. At 700 mg per chew, a 30 lb dog on 1 chew gets about 23 mg per lb, a 50 lb dog on 2 chews about 28 mg per lb, and an 80 lb dog on 3 chews about 26 mg per lb.
